Around the World
Nominomad for iPhone

The name that stays lies at the end of a journey

Nominomad is not a register of names to leaf through. It is a world map made of first names, a travel journal, and a path two people walk together, with no account, no ads and nobody reading along.

Coming to the App Store Nominomad is coming to iPhone. This page gets the link once it is there.

First entry

A map made of names

Open the app and the world is there, each region carrying the names given most often in that place. Zoom in and you get more names, smaller places, finer differences. Tap a name and its postcard turns over to show origin, pronunciation, meaning and how popular it is where. All of it sits on the device, and the map asks nobody anything.

From the catalogue of names

12,308 names, and every one has a reverse side

You can search by sound, meaning, origin, era and character. Every name says what it means, how it is spoken, where it comes from and where in the world it currently stands high: rankings from 281 countries and regions, all of them on the device.

About the name

Lily is an English flower name from Latin 'lilium', the white lily long taken as a symbol of purity and innocence. It was one of the Victorian botanical names that swept Britain in the nineteenth century, alongside Rose, Violet and Daisy. After fading mid-century it came roaring back from the 1990s and has been among the top girls' names in Ireland, Britain and Gibraltar ever since. It also serves as a short form of Lilian, Lillian and Elizabeth. Two clean syllables and a sunny final vowel make it simple, fresh and internationally easy.

By Lake Siljan the houses stand falun red among the birches, and out on the meadow the midsummer pole waits for the longest day.

Up here on the open fell the sun stops setting for weeks; it only flattens out and travels along the horizon.

Second entry

Two of you, on two phones

An invitation links two devices for one shared name journey. You travel the same route, see the same stops, and find out at once when the same name appeals to both of you. Only what you use together is shared, and either of you can delete it, at any time and completely.

Third entry

What the journey leaves behind

Every country you visit stamps your passport, every meaning you meet puts its stamp in the album, and the names you wanted to keep stand in your collection. At the end comes the final: two names, one decision, and a keepsake you get to keep.

About the pictures

Every postcard, every route picture and every stamp was made for Nominomad and belongs to the app. On this page they stand at full resolution, not in the version packed down for a phone.

Support

Questions about invitations, syncing, changing devices or the purchase are answered on the support page. It is bilingual and names an address you can write to.
